Marloes (Luce) Schoonheim reads, rides her motorbike, and knits compulsively. She lives with her Spouse and livestock in Botshol, near Amsterdam. Booksandbananas is her blog.
Schoonheim works as a didactical specialist with the international aid organization Médecins Sans Frontières, or Doctors Without Borders. She has been involved in research and education for almost 15 years.
Schoonheim studied history in Leiden, graduating with honors in 2000. She has a Ph D in historical demography from the Radboud University. Schoonheim worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Stanford University in the USA and, for nearly three years, the Academia Sinica in Taiwan. Schoonheim’s research concerns sexual and reproductive health and rights in the context of demography, gender and sexual diversity.
In education Schoonheim focused on medical distance learning. She studied Digital Communication and Media/Multimedia at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Montpellier, France. She then joined the Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research, developing sexual and reproductive health education for developing countries.
